This project examines the energy and cost savings that can be achieved using thermal energy storage
DOW, AkzoNobel and ECN are currently working together on an ISPT project to assess the technical and economic feasibility of thermal energy storage technology in industrial processes.
The partners will first analyze the current status of and recent developments in the field of thermal energy storage technology. They will then examine the opportunities for the use of thermal energy storage in DOW and AkzoNobel batch processes. Two case studies will be selected, for which a global system design and heat storage integration plan will be drawn up. The energy savings, investment costs and pay back times will be determined for each of the case studies.
